GRASSY FORK AND OWEN TP. CHICKEN- The railroad elections on Tuesday passed off quietly, except in Grassy Fork township, where a sliirht disturbance occurred at tbe polls. 1 he result is not altogether unex pected, although we had believed all the time thai Owen township would vote the tax. Grassy Fork had long since been con ceded to the enemy of Progress, and no one was disappointed at the result in that town ship. The result has not disheartened our enter prising railroad men who have worked so faithfully for the success of this enterprise They now feel assured that the division from Brownstown to Crcthersville will be constructed at an early dav, and that the work will go grandly on.

A new election will be ordered for Owen township with in the next thirty days, and we leel confident that at tbe next election Owen township will vole the appropriation by a rousing majority. The following is the vote in the different BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP. For the appropriation 377 Against the appropriation. 100 Majority for the appropriation 277 OWEN TOWNSHIP. Against the appropriation 159 or the appropriation 144 Majority against the 15 GRASSY FORK TOWNSHIP.

Against the appropriation 140 For the appropriation 66 Majority against the 74 The official vote of Vernon township had not been received up to the time we put oar paper to press, but we understand, from a telegram received here, that the majority for the appropriation ia 71. The Independent Greenback Party will hold a convention here on Thursday, the 27th, for the purpose of selecting a can didate for Congress. Short, was thrown from a wagon last Friday, the team having become scared, and was hurt some, though not seriously.

The heavy rains of last week did some damage to wheat in tire shock, not seriously affecting it however; The corn in many localities is ruined, and in others so weedy that a small crop will be gathered, while in many other places the yield will be a full average or over.
