ON THE RECORD The Republic, Columbus, Wednesday, January 11, 2006 A5 DEATHS Henry S. Cox Hanover Henry S. Cox, 77, of Hanover, formerly of Columpus, died at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at New Hope Baptist Church in Lexington with the Rev. Mike LaFountain officiating. Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Vail-Holt Funeral Home Hanover Chapel and from noon until service time Friday at the church.

Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church. Mr. Cox is survived by his wife, Sarah A. Meyers Cox; a brother, Vernon Cox of Columbus; and a sister, Norma Fuller of Milton, Ky.

He 1 was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy A. Cox, on April 24, 2002. Ryan Bowling Edinburgh Ryan Bowling, 19, of Edinburgh died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at his home. Mr.

Bowling was employed by the JayC Food Store in Edinburgh and Pioneer Seed Co. He was a member of Sons of the American Legion in Edinburgh. The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at EskewEaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m.

Evelyn Johnson North Vernon Evelyn Young Johnson, 83, of North Vernon died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Vance-Fisher-Sawyer Funeral Chapel in North Vernon with the Rev. Marcus Speer officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to Ogilville United Methodist Man arrested after chase REGION By Brian Sanders BROWNSTOWN A Columbus man who led a Jackson County deputy on a high-speed chase was jailed after drugs alcohol were found in his system. Around 11:54 p.m. Monday, Patrolman Steve Scarlett of Brownstown Police Department investigated the report of a vehicle stolen from Huck's Food Fuel in Brownstown.

Witnesses told Scarlett that the vehicle was headed west on U.S. 50. Eastbound Deputy Dustin Steward spotted the vehicle at Indiana 135 and turned around (to stop it, but the sport-utility vehicle sped away. Steward reported that he reached speeds of over 100 mph as he tried to stop the SUV, according to a release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. The SUV crashed, spun and landed on its side after attempting to pass a tractortrailer near Road 500W.

Police found Charles W. Hiatt 48, behind the wheel of the wrecked vehicle. Although uninjured, Hiatt was transported to Schneck Medical Center. He was treated and released, but investigators found Methadone, marijuana and alcohol in the man's system, the release stated. He was arrested without incident and taken to Jackson County Jail, where he faces charges of reckless driving, resisting law enforcement, driving while under the influence and vehicle theft.

Deputy Rob Henley, Medora Patrolman Joey Barnes and Conservation Officer Phil Nale assisted with the arrest. Theresa L. Cooley, North Vernon, DEATHS ELSEWHERE Dr. Ira Black, 64, an internationally recognized clinical neuroscientist and a founding director of the Stem Cell Institute of New Jersey, died Tuesday. The cause of death was not immediately disclosed, but a spokeswoman for the university hospital where Black taught said he died in the hospital at the University of Pennsylvania's Medical School. Since 1990, Black was professor and chairman of the Neuroscience and Cell Biology Department at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Church.

Mrs. Overholser is survived by her husband, Donald E. Overholser a stepdaughter, Beth Overholser of Brown County; and a sister, Adie (Jack) Hust of Hillsboro. Carlene Rogers Seymour Carlene Rogers, 59, of Seymour died at 3:45 p.m. Monday, Jan.
