FRHC budget plan heads before public By Chrissy Alspaugh HOPE After a contentious meeting, the Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Board narrowly approved for advertisement a proposed budget of nearly $9.1 million. The board on Tuesday also voted to enter into a two-year contract with an energy consortium and to open an $80,000 line of credit for roof repairs at Hauser Junior High.

Approved in a 3-2 vote, the corporation's proposed 2007 budget is about 6 percent higher than the 2006 budget. Hearing set The board will hold a public hearing on the budget at its Sept. 5 meeting. The proposed budget includes an 83 percent increase in the Capital Projects Fund. Superintendent Philip Deardorff said he thinks about $145,000 will be cut from the proposed nearly $660,000 CPF budget when blacktop and roof projects are eliminated or" scaled back.

That would cut the CPF increase to about 57 percent. Board member Tom Miller, who voted against publicly advertising the proposal, said he thinks several issues in the proposed budget could be better addressed in the upcoming renovation project. Deardorff said he thinks adding the items to the renovation project would cost taxpayers more in interest than projects were tackled little Fund.
