Rumple described Seward as "never one to hide her opinion." "She thinks an unexamined life is not worth living." She fell in her home in August and was injured in an auto accident this year. She devoted time to environmental causes and was a leaded in recycling.

She has been active in the Nature Conservancy, Arbor Day, Columbus Peace Fellowship, Retirement Foundation and the Heritage Fund, among others. Seward was 15 when she graduated from Columbus High School with all A's.
